Chairs are tough. Exploring ergonomics in relation to fabrication logics involves analyzing how human-centered design principles intersect with material, digital, and fabrication processes. This project questions how much material can be removed while preserving both structural integrity and the visual presence of mass; creating a striking interplay on a utilitarian object. The mass and void work together to create harmony, engaging in a dialogue that offers the object both functional balance – comfort, and visual interest. The eye is not only drawn to the solid form but to the empty spaces that form its identity. Encouraging us to follow its lines and connect seat to back to legs. The boundary between interior and exterior is blurred, yet subtly defined through the use of contrasting finishes: India ink at the “exterior” and a natural Rubio finish on the “interior”.
